Welcome new parent or parent-to-be to Natural Baby Magazine! Natural Baby Magazine was born on September 5, 2017. The digital edition is FREE!
We are filling our blog with great articles to help you parent your baby as natural as possible--without chemicals or artificial products and foods.
We are working hard to fill our pages with real stories from parents who have been there. From pregnancy to birth, to their first birthday, we want you to hear about the ups and downs, the joys the sorrows and everything in-between when caring for a new baby, from real parents--like you! If you have a story you would like to share, you can upload it right on our website.
Do you want to share photos of your baby bump? Your precious little one? You can upload your photos HERE.
I started Natural Baby Magazine after my first grandchild, Izabella, was born. After watching my daughter go through pregnancy, labor and delivery and having "Western Medicine" pushed on her with very few natural options, even for natural childbirth, I felt an urgency to help young and new parents become aware of the options that are available to them for having and caring for their babies naturally. Some of these options I am learning myself as I go—such as the Lotus Birth—which I would have opted for if it were an option I was aware of when I had my children.
After giving birth to five children—all natural—with no access to epidurals, I was surprised to see how much our local hospital, where my children and grandchildren have been born, has changed in 20+ years. Now, epidurals are very heavily promoted, video of your birth is not allowed (because of fear of them being published to social media and the potential for lawsuits—in order to protect the doctors. According to an OB nurse at the hospital), and if you have pushed for a few hours, they encourage a cesarean section, which is major surgery, and this is being promoted nationwide (USA),according to an Dr. Christianson at the hospital.
Rather than listening to our bodies and doing what is best for our health and our babies, women are told to push when the doctors and nurses say push and for how long. With an epidural, pushing is hard to do because you can't feel much in order to push. Then if you haven’t delivered your baby on their timeline, they whisk you to surgery for a c-section. The nurses will often give newborns their first baths, sometimes without the parents present! New parents are not being informed of natural options such as a lotus birth, water birth, home birth, or other options like cord blood storage. This has got to change! If Natural Baby Magazine can help offer options and promote change, then all this labor of love will be worth it.
